PLEASE READ the following before contacting us. We get a lot of email, so this saves us time. Thank you! City Kitties is not an animal shelter or animal control service; we are a volunteer-run network of foster homes. It's impossible for a small group of volunteers to assist every animal in need. Our goal is to empower Philadelphia residents to help stray and feral cats on their own, with guidance and support as needed.
If you have found a stray cat/kitten, please understand that we receive 5-10 emails per day requesting placement for stray and feral cats. Our foster homes are currently full. To start with, we recommend that you read our Stray Cat Adoption Pack. This guide answers many common questions about basic veterinary care, low-cost spay/neuter resources, humane trapping, adoption procedures, and more. If you have further questions about a specific situation, we will do our best to advise you.
If you are contacting us about a large number of stray/feral cats, please read our Stray Cat Adoption Pack before contacting us. We also recommend that you peruse Alley Cat Allies, an excellent online resource on humane TNRM (trap, neuter, release, manage) practices. We are not physically able to assist every person who contacts us about stray/feral colonies, so we encourage you to learn more about what you can do!
If you have found an animal in need of emergency veterinary care (such as hit-by-car or other life-threatening injury/illness), please do NOT contact City Kitties. Take the animal to the nearest emergency veterinary clinic or contact PACCA (animal control) by calling 267-385-3800 or 911 to report an animal in distress. Please be advised that if you call PACCA, the animal will be euthanized. If in doubt, take the animal to a veterinarian (see vet resources here).
If you believe an animal is being neglected or abused, report animal cruelty to the PSPCA on their toll-free hotline, 1-866-601-SPCA, or by emailing cruelty@pspca.org.
