Adoption Key
Li'l Hug
This rail-thin tomcat found a City Kitties volunteer as she passed a corner store on her way home from work. He was working the crowd for a can of food but wasn't having any luck. Li'l Hug saw his chance and followed the volunteer to the curb, rubbed against her legs, and let out a hungry "Mrooowwr?" As she ran home to grab a carrier, the volunteer turned and saw a store employee smacking this starved kitty with a broom. Since he was found at precisely the same spot as fellow foster kitty Tastykake, we thought it only fair to give him a junk food name. Li'l Hug is as sweet as the sugary drink he's named after. He's about one year old and tested negative for FIV/FeLV. Since he had several wounds on his head and neck, we will test him again prior to adoption. He'll be neutered soon, and once his wounds heal he'll receive his FVCRP and rabies vaccines, too. We will test him for FIV/FeLV again prior to adoption. If you're interested in this friendly guy, go ahead and submit an application! Adoption application and $75 adoption fee are required.
Blinky
Blinky was found on a chilly, rainy night in a community garden in South Philadelphia munching on rotting celery. Her vision-challenged siblings did not make it and she was found alone, emaciated and cold. Her upper eyelids never formed correctly so hair had been scratching her corneas causing ulceration and infection. She was nursed back to health and is now looking for a home. She can see--maybe not perfectly, but she has already learned to get around very well, up and down steps, and navigating great jumping feats. She will need surgery once she is older to help her eyelids (paid for 100% by City Kitties). All she wants is a warm lap and food--lots of it! Please give Blinky the loving home she deserves after such a rough start to life. Blinky is FIV/FeLV negative and vaccinated. She will be spayed prior to adoption. Adoption application and $75 adoption fee are required.

Sherpa
*Adoption Pending* We found Sherpa shivering and curled up in a tiny ball on a cool fall day. She was obviously someone's abandoned pet--the sound of a can of cat food opening sent her running into our carrier, and off she went to start her new life. Sherpa is a striking medium-hair tabby with white markings, long ear tufts, and a beautiful fluffy tail. She's friendly and talkative, even to newcomers. Sherpa needs a foster home or a permanent home! She has been treated with Revolution (flea preventative) and will be tested for FIV/FeLV, spayed, and vaccinated as soon as possible. If interested, submit an adoption application and we will keep you informed about her visit to the vet. Adoption application and $75 adoption fee are required.

Oolong & Earl Gray
These beautiful sisters were adopted from City Kitties a year ago as kittens, but they were returned to us under unfortunate circumstances. Both girls are sweet and friendly. They will greet you at the door with much fanfare, or curl up with you for a nap. They are one year old (born 9/11/07), so they still have some kittenish energy. Oolong (tuxedo) and Earl Gray (solid gray) have been together since birth, so we will only adopt to a home that will take them both. We want to be sure that their new home is the last one they will need in their lives. Can you make that promise to these lovely ladies? Both girls are spayed, FIV/FeLV negative, vaccinated (FVRCP and rabies), and flea-free. Adoption application and $75 adoption fee are required.

Pippin
Pippin is a 7 month-old orange tabby boy. He loves to lie on your chest or sit in your lap, content to just cuddle. He's a snuggler! Currently living with 2 dogs and 3 other cats, he gets along well with other animal friends. Pippin would make a great addition to just about any home. He is neutered, FIV/FeLV negative, up to date on vaccinations, and flea-free. Adoption application and $75 adoption fee are required.

Hugo
*Adoption Pending* Someone found this young kitten wandering the streets, wearing a tiny flea collar he'd outgrown long ago. We don't know why anyone would toss Hugo to the curb--he's handsome, friendly, loving, and playful. What's not to like?! Hugo is grateful to be inside and shows it to anyone who will give him attention. He even enjoys being carried around like a baby. He would do well by himself or with another cat to keep him company. Hugo is FIV/FeLV negative, neutered, vaccinated, and flea-free. Adoption application and $75 adoption fee are required.
Rosemary, Arugula, Fennel, Zucchini, & Rhubarb
Rosemary and her five babies were found abandoned one Saturday morning at a local farmer's market. What a shame, but we're glad the family is in good hands now. Rosemary (a brown tabby head to toe) is as sweet as she is pretty, and her kids take after her. Four girls (one adopted) and one boy make up this active litter. See additional photos below. Rosemary and her kids have all tested negative for FIV/FeLV, have received their first round of vaccines, and have been treated for fleas/earmites/roundworms. The kittens will need to come back to the City Kitties clinic on October 18 to be spayed/neutered and receive their booster vaccinations, but you can adopt them now! We prefer that the kittens go in pairs, and one with momma--get your application in now so you can have your choice. Adoption application and $75 adoption fee (per animal) are required.

Argyle
This tiny calico kitten was found in a box in the woods with her brother at just three weeks old (estimated date of birth 7/30/08, pictured at four weeks). The kittens were malnourished, dehydrated, and covered in fleas. Argyle's brother survived a bout of panleukopenia (distemper), but Argyle hasn't shown any symptoms at all. Both kittens have completed a round of antibiotics and are healthy and happy. Argyle is an adorable girl who finds fun in everything she does. She loves to play, and then cuddle up with her brother for a bit of a snooze, or crawl into your lap for a belly rub. We would prefer that she goes to a home with another cat. Argyle will be available for adoption in mid-October, but if you're interested, put in your application now. She is FIV/FeLV negative, flea-free, and will receive her first round of vaccines prior to adoption. She will need to come back to the City Kitties clinic to be spayed and receive her booster and rabies vaccination. Adoption application and $75 adoption fee are required.

Frankie
Frankie showed up on our block with her roughneck boyfriend. She was so hungry that she left him behind and walked right into our humane trap! Frankie is shy at first and needs to be sure that you're a nice person, but once she gets to know you she loves head scratches, attention, and treats. Once she's comfortable enough, she'll get to meet some other cats in her foster home. Frankie is a petite girl with very unique markings. She would make an excellent addition to a quiet home. Please consider giving Frankie another chance at the good life! She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, FIV/FeLV negative, and flea-free. Adoption application and $75 adoption fee are required.

Stella Artois
Stella is an absolute sweetheart in a tough girl body. Everyone who comes to visit thinks she has been declawed because you only see her fluffy white paws (until you pet her. Then she flexes her feet with glee). She spends her time napping, looking out the window, and bolting inexplicably from room to room. Stella’s lean mean street-fighting side only comes out in the presence of rival kitties so she needs to be your only pet. Although, if you eat shrimp, be prepared to listen to a LOT of mewing. Stella Artois is extremely well behaved, quiet at night, and actually listens when we tell her to get off of the bed or shoo her out of a room. She'll ask for attention when she wants it, but generally spends her time looking out the window or snoozing under the couch. Stella is about one year old, spayed, up to date on shots, FeLV/FIV negative and flea free. Adoption application and $75 adoption fee are required.

First Lady Michelle Obama
*Picture coming soon!* First Lady Michelle Obama is a young, friendly, orange and white kitty. She may not be a high-powered lawyer or a politician's wife, but Michelle Obama sure is sweet. She loves everyone and just wants to be loved back. Michelle's favorite pasttimes are sleeping, playing, and did we mention getting love from humans? She would make an excellent companion for just about anyone. She lives with cats and cat-friendly dogs and doesn't seem the least bothered by any of them. Michelle is FIV/FeLV negative, flea-free, and will be spayed and vaccinated prior to adoption. If you're interested, you can go ahead and put in an application. Adoption application and $75 adoption fee are required.

Estelle Getty
You might have to steal Estelle from her foster moms--they're in love with her! This tiny girl was found wandering around in the late summer heat and asked to be brought inside. In some sort of weird tribute to the late and great Golden Girl, she was dubbed Estelle Getty by her foster moms. What a beauty, and a real lady too! Estelle is a petite dilute calico who enjoys curling up on your lap to cuddle at all hours of the day and night. She'll even join you in bed for a nap. Despite her tiny size (she looks to be only 8-10 months old), Estelle is at least a year old and may be closer to 2 or 3 years. In any case, she's still young and can be playful at times. Estelle has adjusted fairly quickly to life with two cat-friendly dogs. She still has to be fully vetted, but that will happen at the next City Kitties clinic. In the meantime, you can submit an application. Adoption application and $75 adoption fee are required.

Tastykake
Tastykake was found hanging around a West Philly corner store surrounded by junk food wrappers and empty cat food cans. When a City Kitties person walked by, Tastykake saw her big chance and rushed out to say "MEOW!" Off she went in a carrier, and she is now safe and sound in her foster home. Tastykake loves to hang out with people and you will usually find her curled up at the foot of the bed/couch with you or laying in a sun spot catching some ZZZZZs. She loves to 'talk' and will excitedly let you know if she needs anything, like a treat or some playtime. She is about 8-10 months old, and petite with lovely torbie markings. Check out those cute black ear tufts! Tastykake has adjusted to life with two other cats, but it did take some patience and time. She would do well on her own or with another active cat/kitten to keep her company. Tastykake is FIV/FeLV negative, spayed, vaccinated, and flea-free. Adoption application and $75 adoption fee are required.

Nora
*Adoption Pending* When we rescued Nora from behind a rusty iron fence, she reportedly had been unable to move for two days. This sweet girl was hit by a car and left for dead. The vet confirmed that Nora's pelvis was smashed and she was very dehydrated--we weren't sure she would make it. But after eight long weeks of cage rest she is up and running like a normal cat! You would never know what this kitty has been through if it weren't for a slight limp. Nora is a gentle little thing with a sweet nature and deep purr. She has a laid-back personality but will seek out attention, leaning her head into your scratches and occasionally kneading the air with her paws when she's really happy! Nora would do well on her own or in a home with other cats. Won't you consider giving Nora the second chance she deserves? She is about one year old, spayed, FIV/FeLV negative, vaccinated, and flea-free. Adoption application and $75 adoption fee are required.
Seven
A dedicated rescuer found this FIV+ tuxedo tomcat on Haverford Ave in northwest Philly. This sweet boy has certainly used up most of his nine lives. He survived being hit by a car during his days on the street, so his hips don't work quite like they should. That didn't prevent Seven from making a daring escape from his foster home! He squeezed out of a tiny slot in a second floor window and jumped to freedom. Thankfully, someone found him the next day, and he was returned to us. Then Seven got some more bad news--his kidneys are beginning to fail, and a cardiac ultrasound revealed an enlarged heart. Unfortunately, due to these recent health complications, Seven will not be up for adoption and will be living out the rest of his life with us in kitty hospice care. Please help us pay for Seven's considerable vet costs by making a donation below, and help make the rest of his life happy and comfortable.

Oscar
Lucky for Oscar a vigilant customer found him in a dumpster at a local gas station. We don't know why someone would dump this terribly affectionate young boy, but thankfully his luck changed that day. Oscar loves to play like all young kitties but can also be very mellow. After burning off energy, his favorite place to sleep is on your lap or chest. Oscar does not play well with other kitties so he would do best in an only pet household. Please consider giving lucky Oscar the forever loving home he deserves. Oscar is neutered, up to date on shots and FelV/FIV negative. Oscar is neutered, FIV/FeLV negative, up to date on vaccinations, dewormed, and flea-free. Adoption application and $75 adoption fee are required.

Wendy
It's hard to believe anyone would hurt this beautiful, petite, sweet cat--but someone did. Wendy was abandoned in her carrier in the Fairmount neighborhood of Philadelphia. Her previous "owner" abused her, then tossed her out like trash. Wendy deserves so much more out of life than her previous people offered her. She loves to rub against your legs, hands, and face, and will follow you around with a happy "mew!" She even enjoys head and chin scratches but can be shy at times. Wendy loves to play. Her hobbies include chasing balls and batting at wand toys. Wendy would prefer to be an only pet. Wendy is approximately 1-2 years old, spayed, FIV/FeLV negative, up to date on vaccinations, and flea free. Adoption application and $75 adoption fee are required.

Mekhong
Mekong is a gorgeous tortoiseshell--but don’t be fooled, she is not one bit aloof despite her fabulous "star quality" markings. She is a super friendly, lithe, energetic, playful two year old. She loves people, gets along just fine with male cats but prefers to be the only female. Mekong is spayed, Fiv/FeLV negative, flea-free and up to date on vaccinations. Adoption application and $75 adoption fee are required.

Toni D.
Toni D was found on the streets, wandering aimlessly one chilly autumn morning. Lucky for her she was brought into a local vet hospital for warmth, food, care, and love. Toni D is a kind and sweet young girl with a quiet personality and very playful streak. She enjoys chasing her toys, hiding under the bed for ambush attacks, and torturing helpless shoelaces. When she's not busy showing her squeaky toys who's boss, she's the perfect angel and naps quietly on her foster mom's lap or on the foot of her bed. She's a wonderful, well-mannered cat, who deserves a permanent lap to sleep on. Toni D is 2-3 years old, FIV/FeLV negative, spayed, vaccinated, and flea-free. Adoption application and $75 adoption fee are required.

Maude
This gorgeous kitty was found wandering the streets, and her concerned rescuer brought her to City Kitties. We don't know how she got outside, but she deserves a whole lot better. Maude has undergone a wonderful transformation in her foster home. Once shy, she now follows her people around meowing for attention and sits for her daily brushing. Maude also has a very endearing purr and likes to sleep at the foot of the bed. She gets along well with her foster brother, Nelson the three-legged wonder. She would do well as an only cat or as a companion to another cat. Can you offer Maude the forever home she's looking for? Maude is FIV/FeLV negative, spayed, vaccinated, and flea-free. Adoption application and $75 adoption fee are required.

Bear
Bear is as mild mannered as a teddy bear except when it's feeding time! Since Bear loves to eat, his size may be deceiving. Bear is about two years young, enjoys passing the time cuddling with his favorite human and lots of scratching behind the ears while twinkling his gorgeous green eyes in gratitude. Bear has been introduced to other kitties and seems to enjoy their company, so he could be adopted as a companion kitty as well. Bear is FelV/FIV negative, neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and flea-free. Adoption application and $75 adoption fee are required.

Ellie
Ellie was abandoned at a local vet office by her former "owners," who dumped her there and gave fake contact information so no one could track them down. Shorty was very sick with a severe uterine infection, and no one thought she would survive--she couldn't even lift her head. But following a blood transfusion, this small, fiesty kitty made a miraculous recovery and is now perfectly healthy. She gets along well with her foster brother but would do well on her own, too. Ellie would prefer a quiet home without small kids or dogs. Please pick Ellie and give her a second chance at a good life! Shorty is FIV/FeLV negative, spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and flea free. Adoption application and $75 adoption fee are required.

Minky
*Courtesy Posting: This animal is not being fostered through City Kitties. Please contact the person listed in the description below for more information.* We found Minky wandering the streets looking very hungry and with his fur a little patchy (he is still gaining weight and growing back his fur). He had obviously been someone's pet--he is very loving and affectionate and can sit on your lap for hours, just purring and kneading away. He has a long black tail and his foster parents (who love Peter Sellers in the Pink Panther) thought it looked like a monkey's tail, so they gave him the name Minky. The vet estimated that Minky is about 3 years old. He has been neutered, but he is also FIV+. He also needs to have his shots updated once he is adopted. We would love to keep him for ourselves, but we have two kitties of our own already. It is recommended that he live alone and stay indoors to prevent the spread of FIV to other kitties. He can live with dogs, though. Cats with FIV can live a normal lifespan as long as they are kept safe and healthy, and Minky is healthy in all other ways. Whoever adopts this kitty will have a best friend for many years. If interested, please contact Rebecca at rebecca (dot) whitten (at) gmail (dot) com.

Gray Boy
*Courtesy Posting: This animal is not being fostered through City Kitties. Please contact the person listed in the description below for more information.* This poor boy showed up on a porch in West Philadelphia hungry and scared. He is a beautiful grey color, with a striped tail and the saddest sweetest eyes we have ever seen. Believed at first to be feral, he quickly demonstrated that he had been someone's pet previously. He seeks out company and contact, although he is still wary of being touched for too long. It is possible he suffered abuse in his past, but, since his background is unknown, we are not sure. This guy would do best in a house with lots of patience and love. Prior experience with training and/or socialization would be a plus. If you're interested, please contact Heather at: heather.simoes (at) jefferson (dot) edu

Elizabeth
*Courtesy Posting: This animal is not being fostered through City Kitties. Please contact the person listed in the description below for more information.* Elizabeth is a rescued kitty in need of a home. Her foster mom says: "She's been tested and is disease free, shots complete, spayed, cuddly, even tempered. However, she does not get along with other animals. If someone wanted her and her kitten (Flurry, born about 1 March, mostly white with grey tabby markings on her back and head, soon to be spayed, loves attention, friendly, active and curious) so Elizabeth has company, I'd be happy to agree with that." For more information on adoption, please contact Kathy: kathymason (at) verizon (dot) net
