About Us
Who are you?
We're concerned volunteers with a mission: saving and improving the lives of stray cats in the West Philadelphia area. City Kitties rescues strays from the streets, gives them proper veterinary care and a loving foster home, and adopts them out to happy new families. We are a no-kill rescue, meaning that we will never euthanize an adoptable or treatable animal. We do not euthanize animals to make space in our foster homes, and we do not euthanize animals for medical problems unless deemed humane and necessary by a veterinarian. We pride ourselves on the level of veterinary care provided to our foster cats and kittens and will never turn away a homeless animal due to illness or injury. When possible, we also assist with TNR (trap, neuter, return) of feral (wild) cats in the West Philadelphia area. See our volunteer profile page for more information on who we are and how to get involved.
Is City Kitties an animal shelter?
No. We operate entirely out of foster homes, so our adoptable cats and kittens aren't in cages in a central location. Adopters meet foster cats in a home environment, where they are comfortable and stress-free. Our foster parents know all about their foster "kids" and can answer questions about their personalities, likes/dislikes, favorite toys, or anything else you might want to ask.
I found a stray cat. Can you take care of it?
If you live in West Philadelphia and we have room, or if you are willing to foster the animal, we may be able to help. Unfortunately our foster homes and funds are limited and we simply can't help every animal in need. Please read our Stray Cat Adoption Pack before emailing us.
I can't take care of my cat anymore. Will you find it a new home?
City Kitties does not take surrendered cats from owners. Our hands are full from dealing with strays on the streets. If you need to rehome a cat, please read our infosheet, Responsibly Rehoming a Cat.
Are donations to City Kitties tax-deductible?
Yes! City Kitties is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization, meaning that your contributions are tax-deductible. You can donate in any amount via Paypal. Or if you prefer, email us using our contact form for an address to mail a check.
Can I help?
Absolutely! Becoming a foster parent to a stray in need and/or making a donation are the best ways to help us. We ALWAYS need foster homes and funds! If you can provide other services, we would love to hear from you.
I still have questions.
Please look in our Resources section first. If you can't find an answer, email us using our contact form.
